Cadel Evans Souvenir Stamp Sheet

To honour Cadel Evans’ historic Tour de France win, Australia Post will release a souvenir stamp sheet on 4 August 2011.

“Australia Post is delighted to celebrate Cadel Evans’ historic Tour de France win with this special souvenir stamp sheet,” said Australia Post Managing Director and CEO, Ahmed Fahour. “This is a great accomplishment in Australian sporting history by one of our most inspirational athletes.”

Cadel Evans said he was very excited about being featuring on a souvenir stamp sheet.

“What an honour to be recognised with a souvenir stamp sheet. It is beyond belief to be supported by so many Australians and to have Australia Post mark my achievement in this way,” said Cadel Evans.
Cadel Evans is the first Australian to win the prestigious race, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Evans claimed the coveted yellow jersey on the race’s penultimate stage, the time trial at Grenoble.

Having cycled the 3,430km route over three weeks, Evans won the famous race on 24 July 2011 in 86 hours, 12 minutes and 22 seconds. At 34, Evans is the second oldest winner of the race. Firmin Lambot won the race in 1922 at 36 years of age.

The historic Tour de France was first held in 1903. Evans first competed in the Tour de France in 2005, when he finished eighth; he was runner up in 2007 and 2008.

The souvenir stamp sheet features 10 x 60c Southern Cross stamps with Cadel Evans’ image on the stamp tab. Images of Evans with his winner’s trophy and scenes from the race feature on the border of the stamp sheet.

The souvenir stamp sheet will retail for $15.95 and is available from participating Australia Post retail outlets, via mail order on 1800 331 794 or online from 4 August 2011 while stocks last.
