As often is the case on many topics, ASP  brings you an article that may ruffle some feathers but may equally set a few heads nodding. This article is an assessment of the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of her reign. Queen of Great Britain and Constitutional Monarch of countries scattered all over the globe, she has had a curious role to play in the modern world. Alone, although with support from swarms of willing helpers and adoring ‘subjects’, she has brought an archaic institution into the 21st century. ‘QEII’ has given republicans, in Australia and New Zealand in particular, a real run for their money. She has challenged the anti-monarchists through her quiet, smiling, exemplary model of what a popular constitutional monarch is and does.
