D’Day – the fateful day 70 years ago, on June 6, when Allied forces, mainly British, American and Canadian, stormed ashore on Normany beaches, against a haü of Nazi machine gun and artillery fire The losses were huge, thousands of dead on the the first day. But a tenuous beachhead was established and from there, Allied forces commenced the bloody, painful grind that would shatter Hitler’s Nazi armies and restore freedom.
